Motorsport and music fans will rejoice at the prospect of the Silverstone Classic 2010 which is taking “rocking and racing” as its theme with a line-up of historic car races and top musical talent. More than 80,000 spectators are expected at the event in Northamptonshire with more than 100 classic car clubs displaying over 5,000 cars at the event. There will also be the opportunity to see many of these vehicles in action with 700 rare classic racers – worth in excess of £100million – expected to be driven either by their owners or as part of the races. According to the organisers, each decade will be represented from the 1930s to the 1990s including GP, Le Mans, sports and touring cars. There will also be an auction of cars and memorabilia and an eight-heat “street car shootout” with a selection of cars, two at a time, side by side, racing along a standard quarter-mile track. Many celebrities are also expected to attend the proceedings and there will be a celebrity race with drivers unfamiliar with the world of motor racing parading their skills (or lack thereof). Formula One fans will feel at home too as there will be a celebration of 60 years of the Formula One World Championship including three high-quality grids on the GP circuit that spans the entire 60 years. There will also be an Under Two Litre Touring Car Race, a pre-163 GT event; a Formula Junior Race; the World Sportscar Masters featuring pre-1974 vehicles; the Masters Gentleman Driver race for pre-1966 GT cars; the HSCC Historic Road Sports race with classic marquees; and the Italian Historic Car Cup for pre-1974 Italian sports and GT cars.
